April 24, 2012 (RALEIGH, NC) – The annual Southern Women’s Show is an event where women can shop for beautiful jewelry and hip handbags, watch fabulous fashion shows, attend cooking demonstrations and sample gourmet foods, treat themselves to makeovers, and meet celebrity guests. As part of this event, One Chic Mama presented a fashion show entitled Redefine Beauty on Your Terms. April 16, 2012 (NEW YORK CITY) – Joelle Ray, owner of Samuel Cole Salon and Master Stylist, Sara Beard recently attended a Fashion Runway Workshop taught by ORIBE editorial genius, Ramona Eschbach in New York City. The intensive, hands-on class was by invitation only. Ray and Beard added to their knowledge of the ins and outs of working backstage at fashion week with demonstrations from Eschbach on looks from recent catwalk shows. They, then, recreated these looks with coaching from Eschbach.

“I’ve worked with Ramona before for Paris Fashion week on the Damir Doma show. She is amazing, talented, and a great source of inspiration. I feel so lucky to have great mentors and friends,” said Ray.

Born and raised in California, Eschbach moved to New York in 1998 and spent the next 10 years working and living in NYC. She started out training at Bumble & bumble as a stylist and instructor, then moved on to freelancing in 2002, assisting Eugene Soulieman in Europe and New York. She has since worked with magazines, such as Dazed and Confused, i-D, MIXTE, V, VMan, 10 Men, Lula, MUSE, Numero Tokyo, and German, Portuguese, and Turkish Vogue. She has collaborated with a strong roster of photographers on both editorial and commercial projects, including Serge Leblon, Peter Lindbergh, Jason Nocito, Josh Olins, Sophie Delaporte, David Roemer, and Carlotta Manaigo among others.

Eschbach has also keyed shows during fashion week for the last 4 years, including Tim Hamilton, Rachel Comey, Matthew Ames, and Rad Hourani in NY, and Damir Doma and Christophe Lemaire in Paris. Occasionally, she works with celebrities who include Demi Moore, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Mary-Kate Olsen, Luduvine Sagnier, and Elletra Rosellini.

In 2008 Eschbach relocated to Paris to expand herself creatively and professionally, but continues to work in NY and LA. Most recently, she has partnered with ORIBE Hair Care as a brand ambassador for the company. She is currently represented at Artlist in Paris and NY.

April 9-11, 2012 (New York City) – Samuel Cole Salon Master Stylist & Network Educator, Sara Beard attended Styling II at Bumble and bumble University (Bb U) in NYC. This intense 3 day advanced styling course is designed to increase technical skills, product knowledge & client education, and further develop the eye. She was challenged to understand the fundamentals of a perfect blow dry and to learn techniques needed to create three popular classic updos: Ponytail, Chignon, and Double French Twist. Through daily hands-on sessions with multiple models and detailed feedback, she enhanced her technical styling skills and gained creative inspiration from some of the most talented educators that this exciting industry has to offer.

Cara Harrison and Carolyn Nord enhanced their skill set by studying with master hairdressers at Bumble in a rigorous 4 day course entitle Design Studio. These Samuel Cole Salon stylists honed their skills, found inspiration and discovered different and unique ways to focus their ideas, expand their repertoire, and learn to view hairdressing in new contexts.

“Design Studio really pushed me outside of my box with the straight razor. I am so inspired and can’t wait to bring my new advanced skills back to the salon,” said Harrison.

March 26-27, 2012 (New York City) – Samuel Cole Salon Master Designer, Michael Knight recently attended Bumble & bumble University located in New York City’s historic meat packing district. Knight enhanced his skill set by studying with master hairdressers at Bumble in a rigorous two day course entitled Design Workshop. He engaged in comprehensive theory and hands-on training covering advanced razor techniques, as well as consultation skills and product knowledge.

"My Bumble & bumble experience in New York City was amazing. Bumble has one of the most incredible training facilities in our industry. My time with the instructors was invaluable and I was able to learn some exciting new techniques with a razor, as well as improving the skills that I already possess. Spending time at Bumble definitely reignited my creative fire. I so look forward to a return visit. One of the best parts of the trip was traveling with my salon’s owners, Jack and Joelle Ray. We took advantage of our downtown location and made some great new discoveries in the city. I think one of my fondest memories was meeting Tim Tebow at a restaurant (Scarpetta). March 19, 2012 (Raleigh, NC) – MAC Makeup experts, Krystal Lehman and Marissa Lamperi were on-site at Samuel Cole Salon to teach an advanced makeup workshop. The workshop focused on three celebrity looks and MAC trends. The looks included Reese Witherspoon (all natural, glowing skin and eye-focused), Zooey Deschanel (bright, dewey skin with neon lips), and Kim Kardashian (heavy, smoked eyes). Stylists came away with fresh ideas and techniques that they can translate and customize for each of their clients.

February 2012 (New York City) – Jack and Joelle Ray, owners of Samuel Cole Salon along with one of their top stylists, Sara Beard visited New York City to work the runways at New York Fashion Week. The three styled hair for the designers of Skaist-Taylor, a new line by Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor, co-founders of Juicy Couture. The new line was unveiled “city style” on a runway set up in a NYC parking garage.

Skaist-Taylor boasts day-to-night dresses in flattering cuts, shrug-on knitwear, cotton-cashmere blend sweatshirts, and a variety of vaguely boho accessories.

January 30-31, 2012 (New York City) - Samuel Cole Salon Senior Stylist, Nikki Kepley attended Current Workshop at Bumble and bumble University (Bb U) in NYC. She enhanced her passion for their craft in this rigorous 3 day advanced cutting course. She refined her techniques learned in prior Design School cutting classes by learning to translate editorial references and fashion trends for her clients and developing an eye to design modern haircuts. She engaged in daily hands-on sessions with multiple models, experienced inspirational demos, and learned to incorporate trends and modern influences into her work.

January 28, 2012 (RALEIGH) – Jack and Joelle Ray, owners of Samuel Cole Salon hosted their 5th Annual Holiday Awards Celebration. The red-carpet event took place in downtown Raleigh at the Sheraton. The Ray’s host the event each year to celebrate the accomplishments and success of their salon team.

January 2, 2012 (RALEIGH, NC) – Samuel Cole Salon owners Jack and Joelle Ray enlisted the expertise of legendary editorial stylist Ronnie Stam. Stam was brought in to teach a hands-on workshop to Samuel Cole Salon’s top stylists and educators. Each stylist worked one on one with Stam to create looks on their model to build their portofolio.

“Ronnie was so personable and taught me how to classically set hair as a basic foundation for anything imaginable for print or runway looks. It was inspiring to take in Ronnie’s thought process while “on set” for our own photo shoot. I added some incredible editorial pictures to my portfolio,” remarked Samuel Cole Salon Master Stylist, Sara Beard.

Ronnie's work has graced top global fashion publications, TV commercials, advertising campaigns, calendar's, music videos and many special projects. One of the personal highlights in Ronnie's career has been to work exclusively and tour with world known rock bands The Rolling Stones and Aerosmith.

Raleigh Salon Owners Assist Oribe at Intercoiffure’s Fall Atelier 2011

October 15-17, 2011 (NEW YORK CITY, NY) – Intercoiffure’s 2011 Fall Atelier featured legendary hair stylist, Oribe Canales. To assist him in bringing his vision to the stage, he enlisted the help of Jack and Joelle Ray, owners of Samuel Cole Salon. The Rays spent tireless hours styling hair for all of the models for an incredible segment that Oribe designed. His vision was inspired by statues in an abandon train station in Prague, the French song “Gigi Amarousa”, and a painting by Oribe himself. The Rays got to immerse themselves in the true artistry of editorial hair design. The event was a huge success and was attended by Sarah Jessica Parker, who presented “The Visionaire Award” to Oribe. The Rays we also officially inducted (“pinned”) into the prestigious Intercoiffure.

“The Ray's are a unique, creative team that understand style and possess great technical ability. They have assisted Oribe on multiple occasions. The Ray's are currently members of Oribe hair care's advanced technical team,” said Daniel Kaner, President of Oribe Hair Care.

Samuel Cole Salon Supports Beast Cancer at Sip ‘n Shop Charity Event in Raleigh

October 13, 2011 (RALEIGH, NC) – Samuel Cole Salon participated in Sip ‘n Shop at the beautiful Wakefield Plantation TPC Clubhouse. Sip ‘n Shop was a charity event where local businesses participated by setting up booths to share information and sell their wares. Proceeds from the event benefited The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. Guests visiting the Samuel Cole Salon booth registered to win a “Day of Beauty” and received tips on their hair from Master Designer, Michael Knight. Salon owners, Jack and Joelle Ray were on hand to meet with guests, as well as Salon Director, Kristina Weeks.

"This event was organized by our very dear friend, Leslie Rutherford. When she asked us to participate, we signed up immediately. All of our lives have been touched by cancer. We are always willing to lend our support to such worthy community causes," said Joelle.

July 2011 (CHAPEL HILL, NC) – Samuel Cole Salon Stylist, Veronique Breault was a 2011 recipient of the Beacon Award while she was a student at The Aveda Institute in Chapel Hill. The Beacon Awards are sponsored by the Professional Beauty Association (PBA) as part of their Beauty Week featuring the esteemed NAHA’s (North American Hairstyling Awards). The Beacon awards are a competition in the United States and Canada for cosmetology students only. Each applicant must submit three before and after pictures of hair that they have cut, colored, and styled and a marketing project, as well as a letter of recommendation.

Out of over 4,000 submittals, Breault was one of only 100 winners. Winners went to Las Vegas for three days of education and opportunities to network with the industry’s highest profile salon owners and stylists. Beacon winners attended specialized classes with the biggest names in the industry, got up close and personal with NAHA finalists and got a firm understanding of the business of beauty. In addition, Breault attended the 2011 NAHA’s.

“I was thrilled to win such a prestigious award. I worked really hard on my application. To be recognized as one of the winners was such an honor. Getting to go to Vegas for three days and attend the NAHA’s was fantastic,” said Breault.

October 10, 2011 (RALEIGH, NC) – Samuel Cole Salon stylists, Whitney Heath and Erin Shebaugh, readied Revlon super model, Elaine Irwin for her appearance at Revlon’s Celebrity Golf Event at The North Ridge Country Club.  Revlon teamed up with Rex Healthcare for the event. With Revlon's support Rex plans to get a second mobile breast cancer screening unit on the road soon.

Irwin is the face of Almay Cosmetics, a division of Revlon. According Irwin’s rep, one of the most important aspects of these types of events is to make sure that the guest celebrity is pleased with their hair and makeup. Samuel Cole Salon Pampers Breast Cancer Survivors at PinkFest 2011

October 9, 2011 (RALEIGH, NC) – Breast cancers survivors and their families were pampered by Samuel Cole Salon Director, Kristina Weeks and stylists, Kristen Cotterill, Tiffanie Spellenberg, Carolyn Nord, and Sara Beard, as well as Guest Services reps, Heather Densmore and Amanda Crane at PinkFest 2011. The event's guests were treated to soothing chocolate paraffin hand treatments and registered for a chance to win “A Day of Beauty” from Samuel Cole Salon. PinkFest is a Susan G. Komen for the Cure sponsored event.

“This is our third year participating in PinkFest. We are always willing to lend our time and talent to such worthy causes, especially this one, since most of our lives have been touch by cancer,” said Weeks.
